Concert and Project Offerings for the 2011-12 Season
Lawrence Stomberg is available for concert appearances in the 2011-12 season.
Below are the program offerings for this coming season. This programming can
also be presented in combination, and appearances as a master class teacher
are also negotiable.
* A recital program with cellist Jennifer Crowell Stomberg and pianist Julie Nishimura,
featuring the Suite for Two Cellos and Piano by Giancarlo Menotti
* Brahms & Friends: a three-part series presenting the complete works for Violin/Piano
and Cello/Piano by Johannes Brahms, with complementary works by Robert Schumann and Niels
Gade. With violinist Kate Ransom and different pianists.
* Bach in d minor: Written in the same key, with the same dances, in the same town in
Germany, and possibly in the same year, the second Violin Partita and second Cello Suite
of J.S. Bach provide a unique glimpse into the great composer's gift for compositional
variety. This performance, with violinist Timothy Schwarz, will present each of the dance movements side-by-side,
violin and cello, showing the breadth of character possible within the structural limits of
Baroque dance. The performance, beginning with the Suite's Prelude and ending with the
Partita's monumental Ciaccona, is about one hour without intermission (shorter versions
without the Prelude and Ciaccona are also possible, as are introductions explaining the
different dance forms and how they vary between the Suite and the Partita). |

"Throughout it was absolutely clear that [Timothy] Schwarz and Stomberg were of one
mind about the character of the piece [Brahms Double Concerto]... They saw eye to eye
about the heroic nature of the opening movement and... they agreed beautifully on the
unity of the lovely unison romantic line of the second movement."
